Leadership

“Most high school students study social, health and family life issues to prepare them to become responsible citizens.  Oddly, however, only a fortunate few learn directly about the forces that will shape their ability to make a living.”
Expert Panel on Skills, "Stepping Up: Skills and Opportunities in the Knowledge Economy."

We spend over 100,000 hours over the course of our lives working.  Recent statistics show that 65% of working adults think that they are in the wrong job. Studies on the increase in workplace stress point to the connection between worker/work fit and stress levels.  Career-decision-making remains largely unintentional for most.

CCDF sees career development as a vital public policy issue and has worked to find ways to bring the field to the forefront of policy-makers’ agendas.  It has:

  • initiated symposia on career development and public policy to foster and develop a dialogue between policy makers, career practitioners and employers and pushed for national and international action;
  • promoted the movement toward practitioner standards in Canada;
  • raised the visibility of the field through keynotes, and;
  • published research papers to promote innovation.
